DirectX 9.0c is backwards compatible and necessary for most adventure games, even some current ones. If this is a computer you've used for older games before, you've probably already installed DirectX 9.0c. Unfortunately the patch may "update" the DRM to a newer version. You can try a NoCD, but the original disc version also needs a patch to take care of problems with hyperthreading that the original version had.
